Children at stake – Online Child Sexual Exploitation (OCSE) - A global perspective of how vulnerable children are victimized online
A Talk by Livia Wagner , Ana Lucila Sandoval Orozco , Madalina Rogoz , Zoe Colpaert and Edgar Federzoni
About this Talk
This session will discuss the different forms of online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC), the criminal actors involved, its transnational dynamics, as well as preventive strategies and responses from national, regional bodies as well as international organisations. Research has tracked a clear correlation between the growing internet penetration, online gaming, social media, and mobile devices with the increase in online sexual exploitation of children (OCSE) combined with low levels of digital awareness among both children and their parents, make victims particularly vulnerable to abuse, with parents effecting limited or no controls on internet usage. Explosive leaps in technological advances without parallel growth in good internet governance, together with widespread availability of low-cost smartphones, were identified to be a key driver for the growth of online child sexual exploitative practices.
