A Talk by Gabriel Funari , Juliana Ferreira , Bram Ebus and Fabian Federl

About this Talk

Organized crime is expanding its territorial reach and diversifying its market activities across the countries of the Amazon basin. This recent trend has led to ecological devastation, and rising human insecurity in the region. The panel explores the implications of greater criminal activity in the Amazon, through presentations that cover the amplification of drug cultivation and trafficking in the Amazon, the rise of illicit gold mining in Suriname and French Guyana and efforts to train Brazilian law-enforcement to combat wildlife trafficking.
