About this Speaker
I'm a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of Oxford. My thesis project 'Criminal Policing and Militia Governance in Brazil' consists of a historical study of the origins of militias in the Brazilian context as well as micro-level municipal comparisons and national-level comparisons of police-backed criminal groups that aim to become the primary security providers in urban neighbourhoods.
Prior to my PhD, I was a researcher at the Center for the Study of Violence at the University of São Paulo. I hold a master's degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Cambridge and a bachelor's degree in International Relations and Philosophy from American University.
