About this Talk

Operational Crimes in Colombia's Cocaine Trade: An Interdisciplinary Analysis of Mechanisms and Harms - Juliana Gómez-Quintero

This talk examines the specific crimes that sustain the cocaine trade in Colombia, termed "operational crimes," through an interdisciplinary approach. By applying frameworks like crime script analysis, the rational choice model, and the value chain framework, this research systematically categorises these criminal activities, providing insights into their roles within the cocaine trade. Additionally, a harm taxonomy is used to classify the broad range of harms these crimes inflict on individuals, governments, businesses, and the environment. The findings aim to aid policymakers and law enforcement in developing targeted strategies to mitigate the cocaine trade's detrimental impacts.
