The role of women in criminal organizations in Latin America: insights from Brazil and Mexico
A Talk by Marcos Alan Ferreira , Carolina Sampó , Nicole Jenne and Anna Beatriz Ramalho Gonçalves
About this Talk
Women have been present in Organized Crime for many years, particularly when it comes to drug trafficking organizations. Their roles have been changing and they have been increasingly involved in higher positions, particularly when their male relatives are behind bars or dead. This roundtable will discuss some advances of the research financed by the Ford Foundation and the Latin American Studies Association, that compares the presence and the role of women in the First Capital Command (PCC) from Brazil with their role in Cartel Jalisco New Generation (CJNG) from Mexico.
