Organized Crime in Ecuador: Strategies to Mitigate Impact

A Talk by Beatriz Quintero , Renato Rivera , Mr. Jairo García and Andrés Ormaza

About this Talk

Crime and violence in Ecuador has escalated to unprecedented levels. On the one hand, a higher number of foreign criminal organizations has established operations in Ecuador, which in turn, has led to a blossoming of homegrown criminal organizations and an accompanying uptick in violence. On the other hand, the state-level response to this phenomenon has been weak and disjointed; a lack of coordination between competent government agencies is glaring. The round table will discuss the main aspects of the increase of crime in Ecuador, and the ways in which this issue has been tackled in other countries, as well as some best practices for state-level resilience in the face of high criminal activity.

*The conversation will be held in Spanish with simultaneous English interpretation.
