About this Talk

Recent findings of a rapid data collection exercise will be presented. There is an extensive literature describing travel routes, smugglers' modus operandi, and migrant profiles that was reviewed to inform this rapid data collection. Additional information was gathered through interviews with key informants. The analysis covers basic topics such as existing and available data on migrant smuggling and organized crime; the main patterns of migrant smuggling along the central and western Mediterranean routes; and existing evidence on the interconnections between migrant smuggling and organized crime along the central and western Mediterranean routes.
