Maria´s research interests range from paramilitary governance in post-conflict Colombia to criminal governance in Brazilian megacities, and the consequences of non-state rule for public service provision and inclusive economic development in unequal societies. With a background in economics and political economy, she is dedicated to combining rigorous quantitative methods with qualitative work to investigate organised crime in new innovative ways.
