Julius Kaka is a research professional with over seven years of experience in academic, nonprofit, and international think tanks. He specialises in security sector governance and leadership against transnational organised crime. He has a Master's degree in Security, Leadership, and Society from King's College London. Julius is also a recipient of the Professional Fellowship for Junior African Scholars in Peace and Security from King's College London.
He has worked in academic, non-profit, and think tank environments, including his position as Field Network Coordinator for the Global Initiative against Transnational Organised Crime (GI-TOC). In this capacity, he contributed to the analysis of illicit markets in East and Southern Africa, field work coordination, data collection, and the establishment of expert networks across East and Southern Africa to inform policies on organised crime in the region and shape public dialogue.
Julius has taught governance and international relations at Uganda Christian University, with a particular emphasis on transnational organised crime and international security and foreign policy analysis, in addition to his research. His publications encompass reports on the intersection of organised crime and environmental exploitation in the East African region, as well as the illicit gold trade, drug trafficking and the illegal cigarette market.
