About this speaker

Dr Ella Cockbain is an Associate Professor in Security and Crime Science at UCL (University College London). She is also a visiting research fellow at Leiden University in the Netherlands. Ella's research mainly focuses on human trafficking, child sexual abuse and labour market abuses. She is interested in rigorous research across qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods. Her research often challenges received wisdom and prevailing stereotypes around complex social phenomena. She is keen to encourage more nuanced, evidence-informed and context-sensitive approaches to understanding and tackling such issues. She has worked closely with organisations across the public, private and third sectors and contributed to counter-trafficking interventions locally, nationally and internationally, including by co-chairing the UK’s national working group on the prevention of 'modern slavery'.
