Dawn Marie Paley is a journalist from Vancouver, BC (Occupied Musqueam, Skwxwú7mesh, and Tsleil Waututh Territories). She’s been based in Mexico since 2011. Drug War Capitalism, her first book, was released in November 2014, with AK Press.


Dawn Marie has a PhD in Sociology from the Autonomous University of Puebla, Mexico. Her dissertation project examines neoliberal war and neoliberal disappearance–and resistance to it–in Mexico, in particular in the Laguna region in the northern state of Coahuila. It was released as a book, titled Guerra neoliberal: desaparición y búsqueda en el norte de México, in 2020. Together with Simon Granovsky-Larsen, she is co-editor of Organized Violence: Capitalist Warfare in Latin America.


Dawn is currently book reviews editor at Interface Journal, lead editor of Pie de Página in English, and a member of NACLA’s editorial committee.
