About this speaker

Daniel Kachelriess has served in several roles at the interface between science, policy and law, including as the first Marine Species Officer of the Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) from 2015-2020, where he led on many technical aspects of the implementation of the Convention for marine species. A scientist by training (M.Sc. Global Change Ecology, Master of Marine Conservation), Daniel previously served as Advisor to the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Maldives in 2013 and 2014 for whom he covered, among others, the Legal Committee of the UN General Assembly. In 2018 he attended the Rhodes Academy of Oceans Law and Policy. Since April 2020 Daniel serves as Sea Shepherd Legal’s Senior Policy Specialist.
