Anna Sergi is professor at the University of Essex in the UK where she lectures on criminology, organised crime and crimes of globalisation. She has a background in law and sociology at PhD level and she has developed an expertise in comparative studies, primarily focusing on policing, mafia studies, organised crime in seaports, and qualitative criminal justice research. Dr Sergi is recognised as an expert on the study of the Calabrian mafia, the ‘ndrangheta both in Italy and Europe, and elsewhere, such as Australia and North America. Recently she has developed exepertise in the field of maritime crime and port security. She has published extensively about this topic, and continues to engage in debates and research with practitioners and policy makers to contextualise her research results.
