Thinking the unthinkable in the defence against cybercrime
A Talk by Gareth Davies , Dr Ethem Ilbiz , Christian Kaunert and Angela Mison
About this Talk
Extensive history surrounds use of mercenaries in conflict zones. The skills shortage of cyber security specialists was 3.5 million in 2021. Cybersecurity specialists take 3 to 5 years to become proficient. Costs of cybercrime are projected as $10.5 trillion. Profits from cybercrime exceed the profits of the global drug trade. With increased legalisation of drugs, the logical business decision is for OCG to diversify. Defence against well-resourced cyber opponents is high cost. This suggests an alliance with OCG. $2 trillion for cybersecurity and defence, is a low risk extension of protection rackets and substitutes for drug profits. Ethics are an issue.
