Mexico’s Security Challenges: Political Assassinations, Money Laundering, and the Forensic Crisis of Growing Disappearances

A Talk by Professor Roxana Gutiérrez-Romero , Mr Manuel Alejandro Vélez Salas and Daniela Cristóbal Sánchez

About this Talk

This panel will address three major challenges Mexico faces today: the assassination of over 500 politicians by organized crime in recent years, the extensive money laundering operations fueled by vast illicit economies, and the increasing number of disappearances that overwhelm local prosecutors and put pressure on medical and forensic services. Each presentation will diagnose these issues and propose solutions, making these discussions particularly timely for Mexico’s new administration under President Claudia Sheinbaum.
