Siria Gastelum

About this speaker

Siria Gastelum is the Director of Resilience at the Global Initiative. Siria started documenting community responses to organized crime in her own native state of Sinaloa, Mexico where she launched the #GIResilience Project in 2017. The #GIResilience Project was selected to be presented during the 2018 UN General Assembly in New York at the UN Solutions Summit. And, in 2019, the #GIResilience Project became the Resilience Fund.

Siria is an Emmy Award winning journalist who has worked on radio, television and print media in Mexico, the United States and Canada. In 2008, she joined the United Nations Office in Vienna. She worked at the International Narcotics Control Board and the Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking (UN.GIFT).

Currently, Siria leads GI-TOC’s programming in Latin America and works on technology applications to empower civil society leaders to collaborate, learn from each other and tell their own story.
