About this speaker

Roxana is a Professor of Policy and Quantitative Methods at Queen Mary University of London. She specialises in economic development, particularly in violent conflict, the socio-economic impact of criminal organisations, inequality, and poor economic governance. She has authored over 50 publications on these topics.


Her ongoing research agenda focuses on measuring gender violence, femicides, political violence and the socio-economic impact of criminal organisations, and the impact of violence on migration in Mexico and Central America.

She has over two decades experience teaching economics, economic development and advanced econometric methods. 

Roxana holds a Phd in Economics from Cambridge University, and a BA in Economics from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM). She has taught and held research positions at Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, University of Cambridge and University of Oxford.
