Luigi Achilli is a senior researcher at both the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, and the Christian Michelsen Institute in Bergen, Norway. His work focuses on irregular migration, transnational crime, refugee studies, political engagement, and Palestinian nationalism. He has authored numerous articles and influential works in these areas. His latest publications include the volume "Global Human Smuggling," published by Johns Hopkins University Press in 2023; the special issue “Migration and Crime in a Divided World: Strategies, Perceptions, and Struggles” for the ANNALS of the American Academy of Political and Social Science in 2024; and the article “The Missing Link: The Role of Criminal Groups in Migration Governance” for the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies in 2024.
