About this speaker

MathMoms is a women's initiative in Cape Town, South Africa, that builds confident communities on maths empowered child at a time. Through creating opportunities for women in vulnerable communities and fostering intergenerational relationships, we nurture a sense of belonging and purpose in communities affected by gangsterism and multidimensional poverty. My doctorate research focused on xenophobia and xenophobic violence as a response to apprehensions of belonging, and I am able to take my research on the question of belonging further - in a practical way - through my involvement at MathMoms. I am also an ad hoc lecturer at Stellenbosch University's philosophy department and a freelance editor.
