Alexandra Tsarvulanova is an aspiring international security researcher with the special focus on Russian and post-Soviet region political affairs. This year Alexandra pursues MA in War Studies degree at King's College London. She is part of ITSS Verona (International Team for the Study of Security) think tank where she leads research team devoted to Russian and post-Soviet region affairs analysis. She also participates in ITSS Verona Summer School where conducts a lecture for the course “Russia, Ukraine, and the future of War in Europe” about and Russian perspective, defining the domestic and international logics behind Russia's actions that led to the war with Ukraine.
Being born and raised in Moscow, Alexandra has been working in the human rights field in 2020-2023 and has gained vast experience in research and management of civil and academic rights violations, suffrage, and transparency, understanding specifics of the Russian political context. Her primary academic and professional interests include Russian foreign and domestic politics, transnational organised crime, non-recognised states, frozen conflicts, and geopolitics. In 2024 Alexandra finished her MSc dissertation “Unseen States, Unbridled Crimes: Exploring the Organised Crime in Unrecognised States and Its Challenges for Regional Security” analysing illicit activity trends in three post-Soviet territorial entities - Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and Transnistria. In May 2024 she presented her research paper "Broken Freezer: Why Frozen Conflicts on Post-Soviet Space Become Actual Again After Russia's Invasion of Ukraine" at 2023-2024 Yale European and Eurasian Studies Graduate Student Conference at Yale University, USA.
Alexandra holds BSc degree in International Relations from London School of Economics and Political Science (2020) and MSc in Strategic Studies from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland (2024).
